The Power Behind Wireless Communications

Managed Services

Metro Networks

Metro Networks, based on Hopling Technologies' mesh networking, offer compelling benefits to cities of all types: extending services to citizens, encouraging tourism, and helping field-based workers to be more productive and more responsive.

While cities share a common responsibility to serve and safeguard their citizens, there is tremendous diversity in how cities invest in outdoor meshed networks. There are several successful business models for cities to choose from when implementing an outdoor wireless network, including a wholesale business model, public-private partnership model, and a more hybrid approach. Having the right wireless infrastructure and combination of partners gives cities the flexibility to choose the business model that works best for them.

Hopling Technologies Metro Networks helps cities around the globe to deliver new and improved services to its citizens on a larger scale and with greater efficiency. They can help cities achieve a wide variety of goals, from improving safety to fostering economic development.

Tested citywide solution suitable for Metro Networks

Metro Networks are based on a centralized architecture. The Xfire Hopgate provides secure management access to the Internet using Virtual Gateway technology, Bandwidth Management per user per session, Firewall capabilities and VPN client-services.

A
ddressing, management, roaming, compression and security of a Metro Network, based on the outdoor Xnet Viper multi-radio mesh node, can be managed using the Xfire Hopman network element manager, Hopling Technologies central management server. Although the mesh network can run standalone, it is advisable to have a centralized management server when the network grows above a dozen nodes. Every node requires separate control channel running from the mesh node to the central management server. Through this control channel the management server is able to communicate directly to each node. Each control channel terminates on the Xfire Hoptun - VPN Tunnel Terminator.

As an addition the company offers the Xfire Hopbase network services manager, a web portal that provides functions such as Database-, DNS-, Login-, Radius-, VPN-services, and Bandwidth Control.

Mesh networking
Wireless mesh networking represents a paradigm shift away from the rigid, long-lead planning and implementation of the wired backbone, and toward a real-time plug-and-play deployment model that is up to the challenges of today’s rapidly-changing connectivity environment. By making it possible to put Ethernet ports anywhere - easily, instantly and affordably - the wireless mesh will soon have a role to play in virtually every private and public network. Mesh networks provide unprecedented freedom and mobility for a growing number of laptop, PDA and phone users who no longer need wires to stay connected with their workplace and the Internet.

No mesh network solution available today is as trouble-free, versatile, feature-rich, secure and affordable as the wireless mesh networks from Hopling Technologies.
