Hopling Technologies’ outdoor WiMAX solution will be based on a fully compliant WiMAX 802.16e and Wave2 compact base station compatible with any mobile WiMAX CPE device. The HopMAX™ compact base station, designed for mobile operators, supporting the 2.5-2.7GHz, 3.3-3.8GHz WiMAX bands, will provide all the functionality necessary to communicate with fixed and mobile subscriber units and to connect to the backbone of the Service Provider, supporting the necessary end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS).

The system will use OFDMA radio technology, which is robust in adverse channel conditions and enables Non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS) operation. This allows for improved coverage, while maintaining a high level of spectral efficiency. Modulation and coding are continuously adapted to prevailing link conditions, ensuring an optimal balance between robustness and efficiency. The use of multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) technologies optimizes link performance to ensure maximum bandwidth and service coverage.

Using the WiMAX 802.16e technology, Hopling Technologies will offer a wide range of frequency availability for fast deployment in any spectrum range. By using the compact base station together with the relay technology, operators can be assured of a high performance, direct connection solution, decreasing infrastructure and operating costs. HopMAX™ 802.16e solutions will give even faster Internet, VoIP and mobile TV services, immediately expanding the coverage area to previously unreachable residential and business customers.

Hopling Technologies and Fujitsu announced in September 2006 (see a related press release announced on September 6, 2006) that they would collaborate on a Linux-based Hopling Board Support Package designed to make it easier for equipment manufacturers to add innovative applications to the standards-based Fujitsu solution. The reference kit, which includes a reference board utilizing the highly integrated MB87M3550 WiMAX SoC, software package and operating manual, is available from Fujitsu since 1Q-2007.

Mobile WiMAX explained
Mobile WiMAX is the next step in wireless network evolution that mobilizes Internet miles from the nearest traditional WiFi Hotspot. Mobile WiMAX blankets large areas, be they metropolitan, suburban or rural- with multi-megabit-per-second mobile broadband Internet access. WiMAX frees broadband from location, transforming it into personal mobile broadband that moves with you. Together both access methods, Mobile WiMAX and WiFi Access are ideal companions for enabling convenient, affordable mobile broadband Internet services.
