Xfire Hopbase - network services manager

Hopling Technologies offers the Xfire Hopbase, a state-of-the-art rack-mount centralized network services manager that provides functions such as real-time User Management. The Xfire Hopbase can be implemented for a decentralized metropolitan area network solution or as the main server in a medium-sized or large-scaled centralized wireless solution.

A wireless mesh network is based on a centralized architecture. Unparalleled gateway functionality is provided via the Xfire Hopgate network access controller.

Addressing, management, roaming, compression and security of a wireless mesh network based on meshed nodes (Xnet Viper-M or Xnet Viper) can be managed using the Xfire Hopman network element manager, Hopling Technologies central management server.

Create instant wireless networks
A wireless hotspot or mesh network based on a mesh based nodes needs to be connected to at least one broadband Internet connection (DSL, fiber, cable, UMTS by using the Xspot UMTS, or HSDPA by using the Xspot 3G+). User authentication is performed at the interconnection of the wireless mesh network and the broadband connection.

With the help of one the standard features of the network services manager customers can simple start a wirelessly enabled device, select the network, activate the internet-browser and sign-up by using a credit card or enter the user password combination. To prevent any unauthorized users from using the networks resources, such as browsing the Internet and using email services, authentication takes place by the Xfire Hopbase. Only users, which are successfully authenticated, can use the network.

Every node requires separate control channel running from the mesh node to the central servers. Through this control channel the management server is able to communicate directly to each node. Each control channel terminates on the Xfire Hoptun - VPN Tunnel Terminator.

Bandwidth controller
If you build wireless mesh networks with Hopling Technologies, you can reserve a certain amount of bandwidth per metropolitan area network. To prevent some customers to use all available bandwidth it is possible to restrict the amount of bandwidth allocated to each customers using the Xfire Hopbase as bandwidth controller. For example it is possible to restrict the bandwidth for each customers to 256Kbps. Burst rates are also supported. Using the burst rate settings it is possible for customers to burst to a higher download rate when they are browsing the internet, but for example file downloads are restricted to a lower rate.
